Second Life Virtual Tutoring: More than Meets the Eye

Abstract

Our group plans to investigate the usefulness of Second Life in one-on-one tutoring. In addition to exploring current research on Second Life, we plan to set up a short "virtual tutoring" experiment. One group member will adapt an existing second grade mathematics lesson to the SL platform. The other group members will independently experiment with the lesson, and each party will record their observations and conclusions. To what degree will SL aide the distance education experience? Does the platform enhance or complicate the effectiveness of a tutoring session? The results will be summarized in the team presentation.
